Virtual Reality for African Secondary schools

The advent of Virtual Reality (VR), Argument Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) have revolutionized some industries namely gaming, storytelling, tourism, education, real estate to mention a few. Some couple of years back, we were enthusiastic about the gameplay station 3, which was superbly beautiful but today we see how emerging technologies like virtual reality (VR) has changed the gaming industry, now we love the play station 4 VR. Some real estate companies understood the effect of VR as a marketing tactic to lure customers to patronize their real estate businesses, interested clients can use the VR headset to transverse round the properties, this strategy has proven to be very effective as they recorded more sales after integrating VR.

Another interesting one is imisi3D, a Nigerian based VR startup, they collaborated with some movie producers, using the high-quality 360-degree camera to produce an interesting story about the passion for education exhibited by a boy living in the IDP camp located in the Northern part of Nigeria due to the Boko Haram crises. The story was really touching. The motivation of the producers for producing such 3D story is to capture the living conditions and activities of the people living in the IDP camp. The outside world might not understand the gravity or degree of damaged Boko Haram must have caused and how well the Nigeria government has been handling such crises. Because the intrinsic condition of people living in the IDP camp cannot be captured on the regular 2D display, it is possible to view this intrinsic condition using a VR headset.

The Afridat team is in love with human capacity development, education and impactful projects. Based on our research, it was discovered that there is an exponential rise of young demographic within the age of 15 to 35 years, as well as a rise in the number of secondary schools in Nigeria, these schools are ready to consume modern and emerging technologies to aid teaching and training. As regard to that, we would like to train teachers on the use of VR in education and creating VR contents, so that they can implement VR in their respective schools and projects those impacts on the community. Interested parties in this VR project should contact the Afridat team via partners@afridat.org.
