With the rising demand of involvement of young people in entrepreneurship, supporting them in creating digital solutions especially digital start-ups with the objective of solving problems and creating community impacts and economic values is our key competence in Afridat.

Agriculture

Agricultural sector in Africa is characterized by the loss of over one-third (1/3) of its yearly harvest, 60 % to 80 % labor is contributed by women, most dominant in rural areas and have the potential of providing huge employment for the 77 % that make up the African youths as well as reducing hunger if all new technological know-hows are well harnessed.

Energy

Over 30 countries in Africa are affected by chronic power problems – if Africa´s renewable energy potentials are put into good use, productivity of many sectors is assured for economic growth and rapid development that will have positive impact on the standard of living as well as quality of life of the people.

Information Technology

According to world bank report for ICT development index, the Africa continent which makes up 16.87% of world population continues to lag behind the rest of world population in its research of the developmental impact of ICT fundamentally due to poor ICT infrastructure and lack of adequate skill. Hence, there is an urgent need to bridge the gap to improve capacity.

Education

A 2017 Caerus Capital and Oxford Analytica report states that, an estimated 30 million of Children in Sub Saharan Africa are out of school and tertiary institution lack capacity. The major impediment to education is access, quality of and relevance of education. Sub Saharan Africa precisely is the worst-performing region globally for learning outcomes, with up to 40% of children not meeting basic targets in literacy and numeracy. By 2035, the number of Africans joining the workforce (15–64) will exceed that of the rest of the world combined, but Africa’s education systems are not meeting workforce needs.

Migration

The mass movement of people from the African continent has become a source for concern to the international community. According to IOM and EUROSTATS, over one million people arrived Europe by sea in 2015 through the Eastern Mediterranean route (North African to Italy) and this figure continued to increase in 2016 and 2017. The rise of Populism and the human cognitive bias of hyperbolic discounting have heightened the situation in 2018.

Climate Change

Africa, while currently responsible for a negligible amount of total global greenhouse gas emissions, is under significant threat from climate change. Changes in precipitation levels, likely increase in temperature extremes and rising sea levels will have a wide range of direct and indirect impacts on Africa. Africa requires financial resources and technical capacity to adapt to the impacts of climate change, and to develop appropriate low carbon technologies. A recent World Bank study estimated that it will cost developing countries between US$75 and 100 billion per year to adapt to a temperature change of approximately 2°C by 2050. For Sub-Saharan Africa, estimated annual adaptation costs are US$14-17 billion, corresponding to roughly half the amount of Official Development Assistance provided for all of Africa in 2010 (UNEP REPORT 2012-2017).

Opinion Poll

Following the UNDP report, e-governance and e-participation which are key aspects for achieving the MDGs are yet to be met in many west Africa countries, some challenges might be as a result of a low rate of acceptance and deployment of this technological tool for effective productivity or largely due to ICT infrastructure deficit.

Ajibola Segun

Ajibola Segun is the Chief Executive Officer of Afridat UG. He manages both the administrative and all data - IT-related roles in the company. Segun is an adept researcher in Artificial intelligence, neural networks, a data analyst and serial entrepreneur. He was the president of Nigerian Scholar in Germany (NRW chapter 2016/2017), co-founded the Rainbow initiative for sustainable development in Nigeria. He is involved in many successful startups, fintech, and is the co-founder of Latcom Technologies.

Dr.-Ing. Ibrahim K. Muritala

Dr.-Ing. Ibrahim K. Muritala is an educator and researcher in the area of chemical (process) engineering with demonstrated hands-on experience and history of work in higher education institutions, research sector, energy, oil and gas industry. A fellow of the African Good Governance Network (AGGN), a think tanker and co-founder of many organizations including Network of Africans, Freiberg (NAF). In Afridat, Dr Ibrahim's roles are to ensure best practices and quality control in all areas of Afridat's activities with a focus on projects and programs content development of all operations.

Oli Ignatius

Oli Ignatius is a researcher and an International development Expert. He has worked with the African Union Commission, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, International Foundation for Election Systems and the Cross River State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. Ignatius holds an MA in European Studies: Governance and Regulations from the prestigious Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelms University of Bonn and joins the team with his core corporate governance experience to touch the business outlook, design, and delivery.

He is currently a researcher on Democratic Governance and Human Rights in the Leuphana University of Luneburg which is another advantage to Afridat as his research experiences in delivering sustainable rights products, and discipline will shape the decision making of Afridat and place human dignity at the core of its business principles. Oli is on the board of the Nigerian Scholars in Germany, North Rhein Westphalia Chapter, World Youth Alliance Nigeria, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter, and the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria. He is the founder of One to One Transformation for Growth and Good Governance Initiative.
